Butrint, Albania

Butrint is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in south-west Albania that was once an important port in Hellenistic and Ottoman times. Surrounded by a beautiful lagoon, Butrint is one of the most picturesque archeological sites in the Adriatic region. Walking through the ruins visitors will discover an ancient Roman style theatre that would have been used for religious ceremonies and public talks. The complex also houses an ancient gymnasium, a Christian Baptistery, and evidence of several different fortification structures.
